Tents, Sleeping Bags, and Sleeping Pads

Tents

Industry-leading tent brands like Marmot, MSR, and Kelty offer limitless options to outfit nearly any need and budget.  If you're looking for a mansion to fit the entire family and everyone's gear we might have something big enough.  If you need something lightweight and packable, we carry the best backpacking tents on the market!

Sleeping Bags

At Kristi Mountain Sports you'll find a wide selection of sleeping bags.  From an Ultra-plush 800 fill down bag that pacts down to the size of a water bottle, to a warm and affordable synthetic bag that’s perfect for car camping. Stop by and we'll help you find the sleeping bag that’s perfect for you!

Sleeping Pads

A tent will give you shelter, and a sleeping bag will keep you warm, but if we're sleeping on the ground, we're sleeping on a Thermarest. The durable and economic Z-rest foam pad is great for dragging around camp, sitting on next to the camp fire, or sleeping right on the ground beneath the stars.  But if you’re looking for something more lightweight and comfortable, we have a wide selection of inflatable air mattresses available for all budgets.

In addition to equipment, we also carry a wide selection of both permanent and emergency gear repair kits.

Stoves, Cookwear, and Meals

Whether you're looking for a compact backpacking stove or a large two burner grill, Kristi Mountain Sports has the stove to get the job done.  Additionally, we carry everything you need to make and eat your meal. And don't forget, we have the best selection of freeze-dried meals in the San Luis Valley! (including vegetarian and gluten free meals)

Stoves

Selecting the right stove can be challenging, so our experienced staff is here to help.  We've got an incredible selection of liquid, gas, and solid fuel stoves, as well as the fuel to power them. (Including three sizes of MSR iso-butane compressed gas canisters.)

Cookware

Come browse our wide selection of cookware that’s perfect for any camping trip. From rugged coffee pots to lightweight titanium mugs, to everything in-between. Utensils, pots, fry pans, mugs and cups, camp-soap, pack towels, and more... Find all of your backcountry cooking needs at Kristi Mountain Sports.

Water Purification

Water is life, and Kristi Mountain Sports has everything to satisfy your water purification needs. Water sources in the mountains surrounding the San Luis Valley (and around the world) can contain bacteria and other harmful microorganisms (Giardia and Cryptosporidia being the most common). Protect yourself from backcountry illness by always filtering, chemically treating, or boiling water collected from streams or ponds.

Water Filters
We stock incredible backcountry water filters by MSR and Katadyn. Filtration is among the most effective and efficient methods for making water safe to drink. Water is immediately cleansed of particulates, bacteria, and protozoa (Note - chemical additives are only needed if viral contaminants are of concern). No need to waste precious fuel boiling water or dealing with the unpleasant aftertaste of chemical purification.

Chemical Treatment
Iodine and chlorine tablets have long been the purification method of choice for those looking to limit equipment weight. Tablets or liquid can treat contaminated water, but only after a significant wait (15-30 minutes). Dirt and particulates remain in the water, and the taste of the chemicals can only be eliminated with a secondary taste treatment tablet. We recommend keeping chemical tablets in your emergency kit, and prefer other purification methods when cleansing large quantities of water.

Boiling
Boiling water is an effective method of making water safe to drink. When the water reaches its boiling point and is allowed to cool, it is safe to drink. Find the gear on our Stoves and Cookware page.

Ultra-violet Light
The newest technology for purifying water is using ultra-violet light (UV). We stock options from both SteriPENand and Camelbak. This purification method removes all bacteria, protozoa, and viruses, but it takes a secondary filter to remove all dirt and other particles. This is a safe and fast method for cleaning water, just don’t forget extra batteries (or maybe a solar panel for rechargeable models).
